About Book

"Geophysics is a very multidisciplinary field, it is a branch of natural science concerned with the physical processes and qualities of the Earth and its surrounding space environment, as well as their investigation using quantitative methods. Geophysics is occasionally used exclusively to refer to solid earth applications: the shape of the Earth; its gravitational and magnetic fields; its internal structure and composition; and its dynamics and their surface manifestations in plate tectonics, magma generation, volcanism, and rock formation. Modern geophysics organisations and pure scientists, on the other hand, use a broader definition that includes the water cycle, including snow and ice; fluid dynamics in the oceans and atmosphere; electricity and magnetism in the ionosphere and magnetosphere; solar-terrestrial physics; and analogous problems on the Moon and other planets. While astrophysics is a branch of science that applies physics and chemistry ideas to the study of celestial objects and events. Astrophysics seeks to determine the character of the celestial bodies, rather than their locations or movements in space–what they are, rather than where they are. Astrophysicists utilise concepts and methods from a variety of branches of physics and chemistry, including classical mechanics, electromagnetic, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, relativity, nuclear and particle physics, and atomic and molecular physics.

This book provides comprehensive insights into the field of geophysics and astrophysics. It traces the evolution of these fields and talks in detail about their importance in the present day scenario. It deals with geophysics in near-surface investigations, astrometric experiments from space, local cosmology and archaeological geophysics. It also explores relativistic metrology, chaos in exploration geophysics and solid earth geophysics.  It is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex theories and principles in the fields of geophysics and astrophysics. Different approaches, evaluations and methodologies have been included in it. In the book, constant effort has been made to make the understanding of the difficult concepts of the subject as easy and informative as possible, for the readers. It will serve as a valuable source of reference for those interested in this field.
